DraftKings first round showdown picks: Rocket Mortgage Classic
By Hans Geevers
The Rocket Mortgage Classic is set to begin on Thursday morning. Let’s take a look at round one from a Draftkings perspective!
Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections I want to clearly emphasize that this article is focused on the first round showdown contest. The single round showdown contest offered by Draftkings is vastly different with regard to scoring than the traditional classic contest.
For those readers that are not aware, the classic contest offered by Draftkings focuses on an entire golf tournament. In direct contrast to the classic contest, the showdown contest is focused on only one round.
If you have additional questions regarding the single round showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.
Here are my player selections for the first round showdown contest!
Bryson DeChambeau $10,600
He is currently ranked third in first round scoring average (67.80), eighth in birdie average (4.42), 13th in par five scoring average (4.51), and second in actual scoring average (68.16) on the PGA Tour. Additionally, DeChambeau has fired a first round score of 65 in two of his last three events.
Patrick Reed $9,800
The 29 year old American has four top 24 finishes in his last five events on the PGA Tour, including a win at the WGC-Mexico in February. Reed currently ranks fifth in birdie average (4.50) on the PGA Tour. He fired a final round 64 at the Travelers Championship last week.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout $8,200
The talented young South Africian has three top 29 finishes in his last four tournaments on the PGA Tour. It should also be mentioned that Bezuidenhout has played three PGA Tour events in the month of June. His three first round scores in events played this month are: 68, 69, and 67.
Harold Varner III $7,600
Varner III shot a first round 63 at the Charles Schwab Challenge earlier this month. He followed up that impressive opening round score by firing a first round 66 at the Travelers Championship last week.
Scott Stallings $7,500
Stallings shot a first round 66 last week en route to an eventual sixth place finish at the Travelers Championship.
Mark Hubbard $7,400
In his last three first rounds played on the PGA Tour he has an average first round score of 66.33. Additionally, Hubbard has been playing rather well overall this season. To be more specific, he has two top eleven finishes on the PGA Tour, including an eleventh place result at the Honda Classic in March.
Tim Wilkinson $6,400
His average first round score in his last four events played on the PGA Tour is 69. Additionally, Wilkinson finished 20th at the Puerto Rico Open in February.
As always, good luck!
