Hot Dog Eating Contest 2020: Prize money breakdown

Don’t worry folks. The world may be crumbling around us but the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is happening on July 4. At least one live event has survived.

We’ll see  Joey Chestnut as he looks to defend his title, if successful it will be five in a row. Miki Sudo will be repping the women this year and she hasn’t lost since 2013. It’s an accomplishment that these people actually train for. Yes, I’m serious.

All of that hard work does pay off if you are the winner.

The competition awards $40,000 total. $20,000 to women and $20,000 to men. There’s no gender pay gap here. The winner in each category will earn $10,000 each. The prize money is dispersed from there.

Here’s how much money to be made at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

  • First place: $10,000
  • Second place: $5,000
  • Third place: $2,500
  • Fourth place: $1,500
  • Fifth place: $1,000

Other contests to watch if you like this sort of thing:

  • Most buffalo wings in Buffalo, NY
  • Most poutine in Toronto, Ontario. (what the heck is poutine?)
  • Most burgers at the Hwy 55 Burger, Shakes & Fries World Hamburger Eating Championship

Here’s how you can watch the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest: July 4 at 12 p.m ET and it will air on ESPN from a secret, private location that hasn’t been revealed yet.
