Michigan football: 5 recruits most likely to sign with Michigan Wolverines
By John Buhler
And we have arrived at the top guy on their board. Michigan does have stiff competition to land running back Donovan Edwards‘ commitment, but he’s worth rolling out the red carpet for to ensure he stays in-state. Edwards has 43 official offers, but is considering four main schools: Michigan, Michigan State, Georgia and Oklahoma. Does he play his college ball in Ann Arbor?
The West Bloomfield High School standout is 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds. He is the No. 2 player in Michigan, the No. 3 running back in the country and the No. 36 player nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite. His primary recruiter to Michigan is running backs coach Jay Harbaugh with offensive coordinator Josh Gattis serving as his secondary recruiter.
Harbaugh is the son of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. While the younger Harbaugh has never netted Michigan a five-star before, he has gotten a handful of notable four-stars to his father’s program, including running back Zack Charbonnet, wide receiver Tarik Black and pro-style quarterback Dylan McCaffrey. Gattis has netted Alabama and Penn State a five-star recruit before.
With Michigan State rebuilding under first-year head coach Mel Tucker, we can cross them off for the time being. Playing for Lincoln Riley in Norman could be appealing, as would playing for Kirby Smart in Athens. However, the ability to stay home could be an alluring factor for Edwards. That said, Georgia and Oklahoma have proven they can play for conference championships of late.
