Pick Analysis. NFC. Washington Redskins. Scouting Report. East. 2. player. 58

As with the Carolina Panthers, the Washington Redskins aren’t expected to push for a playoff spot in the NFC this year. They are coached by longtime Panthers head coach Ron Rivera, who loved to use the tight end in Charlotte. With Cam Newton throwing balls to Greg Olsen, Carolina won three straight division titles in the mid-2010s, culminating in a Super Bowl 50 berth in 2015.

Rivera inherits a second-year starting quarterback in Dwayne Haskins. The previous front office used a first-round pick on the Heisman Trophy finalist out of Ohio State two years ago. While it remains to be see if he’ll be any good at the professional level, Haskins needs more help in the receiving game outside of his former college teammate in wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

For years, Washington has had great tight end play. Chris Cooley was a great player for Washington for years. In the last several years, Washington has employed both Vernon Davis and Jordan Reed. But with Davis hanging up the spikes and Reed a free agent with an injury-riddled past, this team may need to look at seriously upgrading its tight end room.

Of course, they have players like Jeremy Sprinkle, Logan Thomas and undrafted rookie free agent Thaddeus Moss. However, none moves the needle outside of Moss, who played at LSU last year and is the son of NFL legendary wide receiver Randy Moss. Njoku could be in some ways what Davis and Reed were for Washington in their best of days with the franchise.
