3. Washington Federals

In keeping with the Washington Nationals and Washington Capitals, the Redskins could become the Washington Federals. Walk with me down the path to a full visual.

Let’s start with red or blue helmets. The word “Federals” in a cool font or slightly slanted on the side of the helmet, and lines to mimic speed (or the hopes and prayers to navigate D.C traffic quickly?). Maybe just the letter “F”, with a graphic intertwined or the same swoosh-like lines. Red or blue jerseys to go with a white primary.

The Federals nickname can easily be shortened to “Feds” for all that may want to do so with professional or personal reasons in mind. Fans can easily say, “I’m going to the Feds’ game on Sunday”, rather than the more stuffy and formal sounding “I’m going to the Federals’ game on Sunday.” From a branding perspective, and let’s not deny the importance of that, an easy shorthand for a new nickname is ideal.

The Redskins’ burgundy and gold colors would naturally go away with becoming the Washington Federals. Maybe that’s not a bad thing though, even if a complete tear down of the previous rendition of the franchise feels aggressive at first thought.
