Here’s the complete list of 14 NFL players on the 2020 franchise tag

Who are the 14 NFL players who might play on the 2020 franchise tag?
Franchise tag, you’re it.
The NFL‘s 2020 deadline for who will have to play on the franchise tag is on July 15. This date is significant because organizations only have 10 days to put together a long-term deal in place for their previously tagged player. Otherwise, he will have to play the 2020 campaign on a one-year deal worth the average of the top-five highest paid salaries at his respective position group.
The franchise tag is a controversial tactic for the players. For many guys getting slapped with it, this will be their first taste of anything close to big money. More often than not, the franchise tag is used on players who overachieved their day two or even day three draft slot. Rarely does a former first-round pick get slapped with the tag, but it happens, just like it did with a few this year.
With July 15 only 10 days away, let’s look at the 14 players who could be playing on the tag in 2020 and for what amount should they not get a long-term deal done in the next week and change.
Here are the 14 NFL players who have been extended the franchise tag.
- Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Matt Judon ($15.828 million)
- Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green ($17.865 million)
- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott ($31.509 million)
- Denver Broncos free safety Justin Simmons ($11.441 million)
- Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue ($17.788 million)
- Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones ($16.126 million)
- Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry ($10.607 million)
- Minnesota Vikings defensive back Anthony Harris ($11.441 million)
- New England Patriots guard Joe Thuney ($14.781 million)
- New York Jets defensive end Leonard Williams ($16.126 million)
- Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Bud Dupree ($15.828 million)
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett ($15.828 million)
- Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry ($10.278 million)
- Washington Redskins guard Brandon Scherff ($14.781 million)
Naturally, all 14 names will be ones to watch, but a few really jump out here. If you need to pay attention to three names, these are the ones in this order: Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.
Prescott is the only quarterback to be tagged this year. If he plays on the tag, he may not be long for America’s Team. If Jones is tagged by the Chiefs, he will be playing elsewhere in 2021, as he’ll be too expensive to stick around on a second contract. Ngakoue doesn’t want to play for the Jaguars, so he could be a viable trade candidate for something akin to a sign-and-trade.
The clock is ticking on these 14 players, so who will have to play on the tag or not?
