The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes have agreed to a massive contract extension.

The extension we all knew was coming still found a way to surprise us all. The Chiefs made an extension with Patrick Mahomes a priority after the 24-year-old won the Super Bowl with Kansas City last season, the franchise’s first title in 50 years. Mahomes could essentially name his price, with the Chiefs at his mercy — the former NFL and Super Bowl MVP is already establishing himself as the face of not just the franchise, but the entire league.

On Monday, Mahomes and the Chiefs found their middle ground, which was almost assuredly set by his representation.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a 10-year extension on Monday.

Mahomes is one of the most likable personalities in the game, and barring injury, will be the face of the game for years to come. This is why it’s incredibly essential for the Chiefs to make sure he remains at Arrowhead not just long term, but potentially for the rest of his career.

From an overlooked draft pick from Texas Tech to supplanting Alex Smith as starting QB, Mahomes has always been pushing forward towards this day.

The financial details are sure to be enormous, but whatever they prove to be, Mahomes is sure to bring even more value to the organization through jersey sales and endorsements over the course of the next decade.

While detractors will point to the obvious fact that the Chiefs’ initial success with Mahomes was done with their signal-caller on a rookie deal, Brett Veach and Co. can always reach out to their QB to rework his contract if necessary.

With Chris Jones’ negotiations looming, Kansas City’s offseason checklist is far from complete. But for now, they can celebrate. Mahomes is going nowhere.
