J.J. Watt knows Deshaun Watson is about to get paid Patrick Mahomes money

J.J. Watt is here for the Deshaun Watson getting paid party in Houston.
With Patrick Mahomes getting paid, J.J. Watt knows Deshaun Watson is getting paid.
After Mahomes inked a staggering 10-year contract to stay with the Kansas City Chiefs through 2031, the defensive lineman got a little excited about what his Houston Texans quarterback will make on his new deal.
Watson was drafted two picks after Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft. Outside of the Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott, Watson is next in line to get paid handsomely.
Watt tweeted at his Texans teammate a happy Shaq dance GIF to let him know what’s up. Everybody knows Shaq GIFs are the only way to show someone you really care about them.
This tweet caught the attention of their former teammate and Chiefs defensive back Tyrann Mathieu. He quote tweeted Watt with, “Tell me what ya know Nozzle.”
“Nozzle” is a great nickname everyone should want and it led to an even better exchange with “The Honey Badger.” Watt responded with, “I know it’s a damn good time to be a young, talented QB! (when isn’t it? [tears of laughter emoji]).
J.J. Watt says it’s a great time to be alive if you’re a quarterback.
Though Mathieu got a Super Bowl with his quarterback in Kansas City, there was a time when he, Watson and Watt with all teammates in Houston. No, they didn’t win multiple playoff games, but they had a good time all the time in H-Town. Let’s hope Watson, and Watt, keep having a good time playing football for the Texans and getting paid absurd amounts of Monopoly money.
Will Watson make north of $450 million on a 10-year-extension like Mahomes just did? No, Watson won’t make that much in annual salary, nor should he want to play for Bill O’Brien for 10 years. However, he can safely say he’s worth at least $40 million annually on a five-year deal with the Texans. If you want to go $41.5 million on a four-deal, he has a reason to ask for that sum.
Ultimately, it’s great to be a quarterback in America these days. If you’re a top-10 passer in the league, you will have your shot at being the highest-paid quarterback in the history of football for one hot minute.
In less than a year, someone will surely pass you and the franchise who set the benchmark will now be getting a star player at somewhat of a discount. Watson is next man up.
If Watt is this fired up over Watson getting paid, how do you think the quarterback feels about it?
