Kris Bryant throws cold water on MLB’s attempt to play the season
Cubs slugger Kris Bryant isn’t feeling too optimistic these days.
As MLB prepares to get ready to start their truncated season at the end of the month, not everyone is sharing in the enthusiasm with the looming return of the sport.
Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant isn’t feeling too optimistic that they will even start the season let alone finish it. The All-Star third baseman is sharing in the same doubts that many baseball players and professional athletes are experiencing as they attempt to return to sports.
Mike Trout is the biggest name who has expressed concern about returning to play amid a pandemic spreading throughout the country. Others like Ian Desmond and Ryan Zimmerman have opted out of playing.
Kris Bryant skeptical MLB may not even start the season.
Bryant isn’t thinking about opting out, but he has his doubts about the fate of the 2020 MLB season.
“It’s not a guarantee we’re going to play or finish the season, Bryant said, via ESPN’s Jesse Rogers. “Everyone kind of knows that.”
Few want to admit it but Bryant is correct. There is no guarantee that if they start the season at the end of the month that they’ll be able to play all 60 games and then get through a postseason when the coronavirus is continuing to spread.
And when you couple that with MLB’s inability to have a strong testing plan in place for every team and player, it complicates matters even more. And all of that is discouraging for fans who want nothing more than their sports back so they can feel a sense of normalcy in a world where the last few months have been anything but normal.
Hopefully, Bryant’s fears will be proven wrong and he and his Cubs teammates will stay healthy and the rest of baseball will as well and we’ll see a baseball season, albeit an abbreviated one.
