The juiced ball was kind to Danny Santana last year, as the former Minnesota Twins rookie sensation was born anew in Texas. He hit .283 with 28 home runs during his first season as a Ranger, which was a stark change from the below-average offensive production he provided in the past. Prior to 2019, Santana had 13 career home runs, never hitting more than seven in a season. If his production spike is indicative of the type of player he has become, the Mets should try to pluck him from a Rangers team that likely isn’t going to challenge for an AL West title in 2020.

The Mets have clearly shown a preference towards versatile players like Jeff McNeil and JD Davis, as being able to vacillate between the infield and outfield while giving Luis Rojas more options when filling out the lineup card are traits that the front office seems to value.

While Santana played a lot of first base in 2019, he burst onto the scene as a shortstop and center fielder with the Twins. Last year, he played every position except pitcher and catcher. That chameleon-like ability to play anywhere while providing speed and power should make Santana a perfect addition to the Mets that won’t cost a ton of elite prospects if any.
