The Kansas City Chiefs have some difficult roster decisions to make in the near future.

After a half-century drought, the Kansas City Chiefs can call themselves reigning, defending, undisputed Super Bowl champions. Winning the Lombardi Trophy was, oddly, the easy part. But now the difficult challenge arises: win it again.

The Chiefs are relatively strapped for cash, thanks to some bloated contracts they handed out over the years. And no, that doesn’t include Patrick Mahomes’ half-billion dollar contract that was made official this past Monday. Even though Kansas City can cross that goal off the list, the challenges still remain, and these three players find their way off the Chiefs by 2021.

Daniel Sorensen has been with the Chiefs organization since 2014 after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Brigham Young University. He shined as a backup safety behind Eric Berry and made the most of his special teams snaps.

This past season, Sorensen served as a rotational safety, where he surrendered 37 receptions and one touchdown on 56 targets. He did, however, secure two interceptions. Even though he finally won the Super Bowl, “Dirty Dan’s” time with the Chiefs is nearing its end.

Sorensen is set to hit free agency at the conclusion of the 2020 season, and it’s unlikely the team would give him a similar contract that pays him $4 million annually. It’s important to note that the team does have Juan Thornhill on the roster, and he was exceptional until he tore his ACL in the regular season finale.

Considering the early success of Thornhill, the Chiefs can easily replace Sorensen with better talent in the 2021 NFL Draft for much cheaper.
