3 Red Sox who won’t be on the roster after 2020 season

Don’t count on these players being a part of the Boston Red Sox plan after the 2020 season ends.
Heading into a shortened 2020 season, the Boston Red Sox are a team in flux. Less than two years ago they won the World Series as one of the most dominant teams in MLB history. They looked ready to compete for championships for years to come with a promising young core.
Since then, they have had an atrocious 2019 campaign, changed general managers, fired their coach, been the subject of a sign-stealing investigation, and traded their best player in Mookie Betts. It’s safe to say things have gone downhill quickly since October 2018.
More changes are coming for the Sox. With new general manager Chaim Bloom at the helm, fans are worried he’ll employ the same penny-pinching tactics that he used in Tampa Bay. Only time will tell, but these are three Red Sox who will likely be playing their last season for the team this summer.
It’s been a long time since Dustin Pedroia has completed a full season. Since his injury in 2017, he’s only suited up for nine games for the Sox in the past two years. He has already ruled out for the entirety of the 2020 season after suffering another setback in January.
He’s been vocal about his options. Last May he said, “’I’m at a point right now where I need some time. That’s what my status is.” When he was asked if he thought he could play again he said, “I’m not sure.”
Pedroia will turn 37 in August. It just seems unlikely at his age that he’ll be able to return from such a significant injury that he has been dealing with for three years now and become an everyday player. It’s only a matter of time before he calls it a career.
Pedroia will always be loved in Boston. His gritty attitude and tremendous leadership ingrained himself with the city of Boston. It’s possible that he’ll pursue a career in coaching and stay with the organization when he decides to hang up the cleats.
