5 players who deserve more credit for Giants dynasty from 2010-2014
Ryan Vogelsong had quite the journey during his MLB career. The pitcher debuted with the Giants in 2000 after being a fifth-round pick of the team in 1998. He then spent time with the Pittsburgh Pirates before a stint in Japan.
He had last appeared in MLB in 2006 and it seemed like the run may be over. Then the Giants gave him another shot in 2011 and Vogelsong took advantage of the opportunity by making his first and only career All-Star Game.
The right-hander remained with the Giants from 2011-15 and even picked up a win in the 2012 World Series. All of this success came in his mid-30s in what was the second chance of a lifetime. He was a regular starter for the Giants during his second stint and had a winning record in both 2011 and ’12.
Baseball fans are always looking for underdog stories. Vogelsong provided a great one and had the play to back it up. He did struggle in limited action in the 2014 postseason, but that didn’t erase what he had done in the years leading up to that point. The team also won the World Series that year so he avoided becoming a goat in any way.
