3. LSU football breakout players: Terrace Marshall Jr., receiver

Terrace Marshall Jr. was recruited in the same class as Ja’Marr Chase. You would never guess which one was the five-star recruit. Marshall has watched as his teammate rocketed past him to not only be the No. 1 wide receiver on his team but the No. 1 wide receiver in the whole country. Now, as Justin Jefferson takes his snaps in the NFL with the opportunity to see Marshall take over as No. 2.

That won’t be enough to satisfy a breakout season. He caught 46 balls for more than 600 yards last season, so he needs to come off the charts this season. Could he really do it with a new quarterback and Ja’Marr Chase stealing most of the receptions? I think yes.

Marshall is coming into this season with extreme confidence. He’s coming off a 13 touchdown season. The entire football world is hearing about Chase, but Marshall is falling under the radar. When Chase is taking on the double teams and the defenses making sure he doesn’t beat them, Marshall is going to get the benefit of those gameplans.

We’re talking about the nation’s top wide receiver recruit of 2018. Sure, Chase is the man, but we’re still looking at an NFL talent here. 1,500 yards is not out of the question. Touchdowns seem to be Marshall’s forte, but expect him to pad his stats early in the season when teams don’t have their legs yet and they aren’t aware of his ability to ruin defenses.
