You know who hates the idea of spring college football? Matt Leinart.

Matt Leinart is clearly not a fan of college football being played in the spring time.

The College Football Hall of Fame, Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from USC tweeted out on Wednesday how much he does not like the idea of spring college football. He let everybody know how he feels about it and will go into further detail on it during Wednesday evening’s webcast for FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff.

“Spring football is an absolute terrible idea and you’ll hear about from the Big Noon Kickoff crew later.” Well, then. We can’t wait to see what the former first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals has to say about that.

Matt Leinart isn’t a fan of spring college football and neither should you.

Spring football hasn’t worked in American for a reason. Outside of a handful of states, it’s not warm enough to begin the season. Professionally, yes, you can try to get away with it, but in college, do you really want to see the Big Ten’s Wisconsin Badgers have to play in a foot of snow in mid-February? Surely, that would be a terrible television product for FOX and ESPN to broadcast.

Not only do players not want to play in the freezing cold, but do you want to sit on frozen bleachers and watch 18 to 23 year olds play in the freezing cold? Bills Mafia may sign up for that, but the rest of America would rather watch a bad television product being played in the elements from the great indoors.

Lastly, the other reason spring college football isn’t going to work is the NFL isn’t going to move its draft back to October or November to accommodate. Hardly any seniors will play in the spring and some talented juniors may punt as well. In short, we’re being guaranteed junior varsity level college football masquerading as the real things. That ain’t 24-karat, that’s fool’s gold.

While spring college football is better than not having any at all, it won’t be anything closet to the same. Remember when the AAF and the XFL were a thing the last two springs? Neither of those spring upstart leagues made it through an entire season, albeit for totally different reasons. Unless you love college football, you might be too busy to watch once the weather changes.

Leinart’s disdain of spring college football is totally understandable, but beggars can’t be choosers.
