Can Alabama get the Brothers Brockermeyer?

While James Brockermeyer might only be the No. 187 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite rankings, the Fort Worth native is the top-ranked center in the class and has immediate upside. And throughout 2020, it’s been apparent that the dominoes are starting to fall for the high-potential prospect (and his brother Tommy — more on him later) could be heading to Alabama for his college football career.

Given his status as the No. 1 center in the country, it’s not a shock that the four-star recruit has a ton of suitors who are interested in bringing him into the fold. The SEC’s elite alongside the Crimson Tide in LSU and Auburn are involved at the top of the mix while Texas, the home-state choice, is also making a strong play to sign Brockermeyer.

Coming out of high school at 6-foot-3, 273 pounds, Brockermeyer is a little slight in terms of his frame but that can be fixed with Bama’s vaunted strength and conditioning program. He has a nice build that should be easy to add weight to while not losing what makes him special. In that case, Brockermeyer is a terrific mover in space who plays with a great football IQ and a motor that never stops running.

Landing Brockermeyer could give the Crimson Tide a historically great offensive line recruiting class. They already landed five-star offensive tackle JC Latham in mid-June and have their sights set on another five-star tackle as well (someone we might be seeing more of very shortly). Subsequently, getting another stud center in Tuscaloosa would be a phenomenal addition to this class.
