Nation’s top-rated player Jonathan Kuminga reveals commitment date
Jonathan Kuminga will announce his commitment on July 16. Where will he go?
A commitment date has finally been set for former Patrick School small forward Jonathan Kuminga. He will announce his commitment at 2 p.m. eastern next Thursday. He reclassified to 2020 in June and graduated from The Patrick School. The 6-foot-8, 205 pound, from the Congo will have the NBA G-League Pathway Program, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Duke Blue Devils, Kentucky Wildcats, and Auburn Tigers awaiting his decision. The program he selects will be getting a top-tier playmaker who will make a difference right away.
He has always been a high volume scorer. As a sophomore at Our Savior New American School in New York, he averaged 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists. He received Slam Dunk to the Beach Showcase MVP after scoring 40 points in a losing effort against Washington D.C.’s Gonzaga College High School. He was a National Sophomore of the Year honoree as well.
In his last season with the Patrick School Celtics, Jonathan Kuminga averaged 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists and earned Second Team All-State honors. The team went 20-7 overall and finished second among the top 50 boys basketball programs for the 2019-20 season. Kuminga was able to put up those numbers despite playing only 14 games, being ruled ineligible for a month due to New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association transfer rules, and suffering an ankle sprain that had him out for another month.
During his lone season with the Celtics, he was known for wowing the crowd with his dunks, but he showed his skill as a passer and three-point shooter. On the defensive end, teams needed to be aware of him as a shot blocker.
It has been reported in the weeks leading up to his decision that perennial powerhouses in the Duke Blue Devils and Kentucky Wildcats are not being considered but he could surprise everyone and choose either one of those schools. The Texas Tech Red Raiders are the best fit if he doesn’t choose the NBA G-League Pathway Program.
