These are the 10 worst contracts currently being paid out in the NFL.

Even though contracts aren’t fully guaranteed (unless you’re Kirk Cousins) in the NFL, teams can still find ways to mess up with their money. The list of horrendous free agent signings litters NFL history but teams are always willing to pay up in the hopes of finding that one piece that can launch a Super Bowl run. Let’s take a look at 10 of the worst contracts in the league right now.

10. NFL’s worst contracts: WR Brandin Cooks (5 years, $81 million with $50.5 million guaranteed)

For a player as talented as Cooks is it is hard to understand why he gets moved so much. The New Orleans Saints drafted Cooks in 2014 and he played three years for them before getting dealt to the Patriots.

Cooks lasted just a year with New England before getting flipped to the Rams, who promptly gave him a five-year deal with a boatload of guaranteed money. Injuries took a toll on Cooks, who dealt with concussions in 2019 and was a non-factor in Los Angeles’ offense.

The Rams ate $21 million of dead money to trade Cooks to the Texans, where he will be asked to replace DeAndre Hopkins as Deshaun Watson’s go-to-guy. It is a low-risk proposition for Houston, but the odds of Cooks living up to this massive contract aren’t good.
