2. NFL’s worst contracts: QB Nick Foles (4 years, $88 million with $50.1 million guaranteed)

Teams in need of a quarterback will do pretty much everything to land their guy. Foles, who had won a Super Bowl with the Eagles but had no future with Wentz under center, was a coveted free agent due to his playoff pedigree.

Jacksonville ponied up, giving Foles massive guarantees to upgrade the position after a disastrous end to the Blake Bortles-era. The deal blew up right away as Foles fractured his collarbone in Week 1 and eventually lost his job to sixth-round rookie Gardner Minshew.

With no clear future in Jacksonville, the Jaguars traded Foles to the Chicago Bears this offseason, absorbing $18 million in dead money to get rid of his contract. The Bears are hoping that Foles will give them insurance against further regression from Mitchell Trubisky, but they also won’t have an out until 2022.

Foles still has a ton of guaranteed money left and it isn’t clear yet if he will have NFL success outside of Philadelphia. The Jaguars did well to get rid of Foles and make sure he is no longer their problem as they begin yet another rebuild.
