No one is going to fault Buster Posey for taking care of his family. No one but one guy on Twitter, anyway.

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey became one of the most high-profile players to announce he will skip the truncated 2020 MLB season, citing the fact that he and his wife adopted twin girls that were born premature and will spend time in the NICU. Rather than salute the Giants legend for not allowing baseball to get in the way of his family, one Bay Area journalist tried to claim this will change Posey’s legacy.

Dieter Kurtenbach of The Mercury News uncorked the most ridiculous take possible after Posey confirmed he wouldn’t play in 2020, as he thinks that this will be perceived as a “negative” that will alter his legacy.

UPDATE: Kurtenbach sent his original tweet out on Thursday night, which was before Posey’s situation and personal life became public knowledge on Friday.

This might be one of the worst ratios in the history of twitter, and he deserved every bit of the roasting he is currently on the wrong end of. Posey has an MVP, six All-Star game appearances, and three championships on top of all the work he has done in the community in San Francisco. His legacy is fine.

To be fair, Kurtenbach didn’t know the full details of what the situation was before tweeting.

Buster Posey will sit out in 2020 due to concerns about his family’s health.

Posey, who hit .257 with seven home runs last season, missed out on the All-Star game for just the second time since 2012. While he could have used 2020 to re-establish himself as an elite catcher behind and at the plate, he chose to prioritize his family’s well-being, which was a pretty selfless gesture.

Still, with Posey out, Gabe Kapler’s team will need to pick from an inexperienced group of catchers to replace him. Posey sitting out might be a bit of a blessing in disguise, as it will give the Giants the chance to see how good former No. 2 overall pick Joey Bart is in Posey’s stead.

Given the justification for Posey sitting the season out, there shouldn’t have been a single soul that took issue with his decision.
