Giants skipper Gabe Kapler shows his support for Buster Posey sitting out the 2020 season

Star San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey shocked the baseball world earlier this week, announcing he’ll be opting out of the 60-game MLB 2020 season. He’s not the only player to do so, as concerns remain high regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

As soon as Posey’s decision was made public, though, he was showered with negative comments from both fans and members of the media. Skipper Gabe Kapler saw these messages and knew he had to step up and show support for his All-Star backstop. He did so by posting a passionate message on his Twitter account.

Buster Posey and his wife just adopted two babies who were born prematurely

As you can see from the tweet above, Kapler is not mad at Posey whatsoever for his decision to stay home with his family during this global pandemic. Some fans don’t feel the same, however, as they’ve blasted Posey on social media repeatedly for ‘turning his back on his team’ among other things.

Remember, Posey isn’t just staying at home for a vacation. Posey and his wife just adopted twins, who are eight weeks old and were born prematurely. He’s made the tough decision to stay at home with the kids and his wife Kristen.

With cases of the coronavirus continuing to spread throughout the country, Posey knows now is the time more than ever to be with his family and keep them safe.

While the game of baseball means the world to him, nothing tops his family. This is something Kapler both understands and respects. So do the rest of Posey’s teammates.

The Giants will now look to win the NL West and go on a deep postseason run without one of their stars. In this case, however, it’s a completely understandable situation. Kudos to Kapler for having Posey’s back like this.
