Julio Franco taking batting practice at 62 is incredible to see
Julio Franco taking batting practice at 62 years old is truly remarkable
Former MLB first baseman/designated hitter Julio Franco is the textbook definition of ageless wonder. He enjoyed 23 years in the bigs, suiting up for eight different teams. Oh and by the way, he didn’t retire until he was 48 years old. That’s not a typo folks, he was 48!
So, it should come as no surprise that despite being in his 60s, Franco hasn’t lost his love for the game and is still putting on a show with a bat in his hands. Just go ahead and take a look for yourself.
Julio Franco had more than 2,500 hits throughout his MLB career
With players dropping out of the shortened season due to the coronavirus concerns, maybe it’s time to get Franco back on a roster. Even at 62 years old, the former slugger is showing he’s still got great form. His swing looks as pure as ever.
When people are in their early 60s, they’re usually on their couches watching athletes practice their stroke. That’s not the case for Franco, though. Good luck trying to get him to put the bat down. He let us know just how much baseball means to him by nearly playing into his 50s.
For his career, Franco was truly a one of a kind player. He finished with 2,586 hits and 173 home runs. He finished just under .300 for his career, posting a .298 batting average as well. He closed out his career suiting up for the Braves and Mets, while previously playing for the Brewers, Indians, White Sox, Rays, Rangers and Phillies.
For all of us out there, we can only hope we age is well as Mr. Franco. Don’t be surprised to see him slamming dingers in his early 90s during celebrity softball games. He’s just that good.
