LSU football: 5 blue-chip recruits most likely to sign with LSU Tigers
By John Buhler
Which five recruits are most likely to sign with LSU football in 2021?
LSU football could end up with the No. 1 class in the 2021 recruiting cycle.
The LSU Tigers currently have the No. 6 class in the nation and the No. 2 class in the SEC in the eyes of the 247Sports Composite. For some programs, netting a top-10 recruiting class is a huge deal, but for a team like LSU, it is expected. LSU has one of the greatest recruiters of all time in Ed Orgeron. There is a very good chance LSU ends up with a top-five class in 2021.
Through the middle part of July 2020, LSU has 15 hard commits, 13 of which boast a four-star rating. This is fantastic, however, LSU does not have a single five-star player committed to its 2021 class up to this point. Should the Bayou Bengals be able to pull in one or two five-stars, it will go a long way in ensuring they end up with a top-five class in this recruiting cycle.
So what we’re going to do today is look at a handful of top-flight recruits in this class that may very well end up at LSU to play their college football. Keep in mind LSU is the reigning College Football Playoff National Champion and nearly accounted for half of the first round of players drafted into the NFL back in April. You can win big at LSU and get ready to play at the next level.
What is important for LSU is to be able to build off an incredible season and prove 2019 was no fluke. It won’t be because LSU will contend for SEC and national championships for the next several years. Orgeron is the man in Baton Rouge and LSU isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Every time you see him tweet “Hold That Tiger”, you know something good has happened.
Here are the five recruits most likely to sign with LSU football in 2021.
At 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds, wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. is a big body who could thrive in Steve Ensminger’s LSU offense. By adding former Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan as the team’s passing game coordinator, the Bayou Bengals shouldn’t skip a beat in 2020. Look for Thomas to be very interested in playing for his home state’s team.
The Walker High School standout is the No. 3 player from Louisiana, the No. 7 wide receiver in his class and the No. 60 player nationally in the 247Sports Composite. The four-star receiver has 16 official offers but is looking hard at four teams in particular: LSU, the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Texas A&M Aggies. It seems like SEC or bust for his commitment.
Thomas’ primary recruiter to LSU is wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph. He has landed LSU three five-stars before, including wide receiver Terrace Marshall and running back John Emery Jr. With Alabama and LSU starting to separate from Georgia and Texas A&M for his commitment, does Thomas stay in Louisiana or venture two states over to The Yellowhammer State?
Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding and wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins are leading the charger for Thomas’ recruitment to Tuscaloosa. While we can’t cross out Georgia or Texas A&M just yet, this feels like an early two-team race for Thomas’ commitment. Given the in-state program just won a national title, we have to believe LSU is in the driver’s seat here for him.
