MLB power rankings: 10-6

10. Arizona Diamondbacks

We expected more out of Robbie Ray last year, and frankly did not receive it. With Zach Greinke out of the picture, the D’Backs have a lot of work to do if they’re to restore their rotation depth. Adding Madison Bumgarner should help, but he alone won’t be enough to turn this group around.

9. San Diego Padres

Yes, the Padres have Chris Paddack and Mackenzie Gore, but they’re suffering with their rotation depth. Garrett Richards has a ton of question marks thanks to injury, and the Pads are asking a lot out of him.

8. Chicago Cubs

Based on pedigree alone, the Cubs rotation should be higher on this list, but the production just hasn’t been there. Unless we get vintage Yu Darvish, Jon Lester and Jose Quintana, this group just hasn’t lived up the billing in years.

7. Philadelphia Phillies

Adding Zack Wheeler should help a Phillies rotation that has plenty of big names, but has yet to produce the results expected of them. Aaron Nola and Jake Arrieta help create a three-headed monster with Wheeler, and this group still has a ton of potential.

6. Atlanta Braves

Mike Soroka, Max Fried and Cole Hamels in the same rotation, what’s not to love? Unfortunately, the bottom half is built on potential, and hasn’t delivered in quite some time. Mike Foltynewicz could put this group over the top, and make me look very bad in the process.
