Houston Texans. Deshaun Watson. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 10. QB. 7

It’s tempting to write Watson’s chances of leading the NFL in passing off after the offseason departure of his favorite wide receiver. Losing Hopkins will definitely make Watson’s life more difficult, but he still has the talent to succeed without start talent around him.

Bill O’Brien hopes that giving his quarterback better protection will make up for the loss of talent at wide receiver. Time will tell whether or not the decision to trade Hopkins will ever be justifiable. The one certainty is that O’Brien and his coaching staff will be desperate to show the world that Watson can still be an elite player.

Another concern for Watson’s production this season is how much the Texans might want to lean on their ground game. The franchise also needs to make running back David Johnson look good since he was the return in the Hopkins deal. If Houston can get their ground game going it might lead to fewer passing attempts for Watson this season.

Ultimately, Watson is still going to be a very dangerous player in 2020. The degree of difficulty being heaped on him by his organization will make it difficult for him to take a massive step forward though. Watson will have to work too hard just to maintain his production from 2019.
