Betting on a 41-year-old quarterback to lead the NFL in passing is definitely a risk. That doesn’t mean Brees can’t accomplish the impressive feat in 2020. He still triggers one of the league’s most prolific passing attacks.

His comfort with head coach Sean Payton makes Brees arguably the most efficient passer in football. That’s why he completed 74.3% of his passes in 2019. When Brees drops back to pass the ball almost always ends up in the hands of one of his trusted receivers.

The presence of Michael Thomas on the outside also is a massive luxury for him. Thomas’ name might be ordinary, but his talent level is anything but. His connection with Brees allowed him to put up insane receiving totals in 2019.

Age-related regression is a significant threat here, but Brees is in the perfect system to allow him to continue to play at a high level. New Orleans won’t ask him to do anything he’s not completely comfortable with. Brees’ degree of difficulty might be lower than any of his competitors. That gives him a chance to lead the league in passing at his advanced age.
