Chris Jones is staying with the Chiefs for the next four years at least, and his teammate Patrick Mahomes is thrilled about the new deal.

Both Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones agreed to huge contracts this past week and this is big news for the Kansas City Chiefs, who look to be the first NFL team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since the New England Patriots did it in 2003 and 2004.

After Mahomes signed a massive 10-year contract worth over $500 million, some fans might have felt like giving Jones a big-time contract too wasn’t very likely. Mahomes obviously heard people saying that, because he clapped back after Jones’ contract was announced by saying “And y’all thought we couldn’t.”

Mahomes is obviously thrilled about his teammate also getting signed to a mega deal, and now the Chiefs are in even more of a prime position to repeat as Super Bowl champs.

We don’t have to go into detail on how important Mahomes was to the Chiefs during their Super Bowl run in 2019, but Jones was a pivotal player in the run to the title as well. He had several key defended passes in the Super Bowl that aren’t talked about enough.

After being the Chiefs’ second-round pick in 2016, all Jones has done is been a human wrecking ball on defense. He was a bright spot on that defense when it was getting exposed by everyone in 2018, and while the Chiefs probably still make it to and win the Super Bowl without Jones, him being on the team made a huge impact.

By re-signing Jones, the Chiefs showed they’re willing to keep their star players and give them the money they’re owed. Neither deal is going to crush Kansas City, as Mahomes’ in particular is pretty team-friendly despite it being for over $500 million.

With Jones tied to Kansas City for the next four years and Mahomes in KC for the next decade, it’s hard to imagine the Chiefs not running it back and winning it all again a few more times. It’ll be easier said than done, but for now, Chiefs fans should be thrilled about what’s to come.

Patrick Mahomes talking trash and being excited for Chris Jones shows this team still has a lot to accomplish, and it started with these two deals being inked.
