Red Sox prospect Jeter Downs has been added to Boston’s player pool
When the Boston Red Sox made the incredibly tough decision to trade superstar outfielder Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers, fans were split on the decision. Losing Betts surely hurt, but it was a move the front office had to make because they surely couldn’t afford to give him a huge new deal.
Well, among the returns in that trade, which also featured David Price, was prized top prospect Jeter Downs. The stellar young shortstop is only 21 years old, and is primed to make a difference for the club in the coming years.
Well, he’ll get his chance in the near future to impress some teammates and the front office, as it’s been reported Downs has been added to Boston’s player pool.
Per sources, Jeter Downs, Jay Groome, and Jarren Duran have been invited to be part of the group of prospects at McCoy at the alternate site training. (@ChrisCotillo reported Downs.)

Will Jeter Downs make his Red Sox debut at some point this season?
Per a report, Boston indeed has added Downs to the 60-man player pool of players eligible to suit up for the Red Sox this upcoming campaign. This has to be welcoming news for fans everywhere, as Downs has humongous expectations since he was a major piece for the Betts-Price trade.
Last season in High A and Double A, the stud infielder hit a combined .276, with 24 home runs and 86 RBI. As good as he is at the plate, he’s even more impressive with his glove in the field.

He’s considered Boston’s No. 3 ranked prospect and the No. 95 prospect overall on Baseball America’s Top 100.
In addition to Downs, it was also reported Jay Groome and Jarren Duran have also been added to Boston’s player pool. There’s no doubt the organization is filled with outstanding talent in the farm system. We could end up seeing them in the bigs sooner than expected too.
