Ohio State is ready to swoop in for a former Clemson cornerback commit.

It looks like the Buckeyes will have a second chance at their top cornerback target Jordan Hancock. After initially committing to Clemson, the four-star recruit has decommitted and Ohio State is the favorite to get his signature.

Hancock becomes only the second player to decommit from Clemson since 2016, joining five-star defensive end recruit Korey Foreman, the No. 1 recruit in the 2021 class. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Hancock is from North Gwinnett high school in Georgia and ranks as the No. 77 overall recruit, No. 6 cornerback and the No. 9 player in the state of Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Jordan Hancock could be the next member of DBU at Ohio State.

Hancock reportedly has great relationships with Ohio State coaches and other members of the 2021 class. The Buckeyes have the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings, getting verbal commitments from four five-star recruits and 11 four-star recruits.

All eight Crystal Ball predictions on 247Sports have Ohio State as the team to beat for Hancock.

Ohio State has long been a destination for young defensive backs, earning the “DBU” moniker of the Big Ten for their consistency in producing excellent NFL cornerbacks and safeties. Since 2017, Ohio State has produced Marshon Lattimore, Denzel Ward, Jeff Okudah, Malik Hooker, and Damon Arnette. No college has a roster of defensive backs better in the past five years.

Ohio State would give Hancock the best chance at becoming a star in the NFL, which will be a major factor if he decides to sign. If he does choose the Buckeyes, Hancock will join a cornerback room that consists of two former five-star recruits in Shaun Wade and Tyreke Johnson. Wade is likely to be a top pick in next year’s draft and another success story from an Ohio State defensive back.

Barring a change of heart, it looks to be a lock that Hancock will sign with the Buckeyes.
