Chicago Bears are leaving Allen Robinson on read, which is very unfair

Allen Robinson and the Chicago Bears have yet to reach an agreement on a contract extension.

Being left on read over text or any form of electronic communication is a tough beat. Disrespectful some would say.

For Chicago Bears Wide Receiver Allen Robinson, that’s essentially what’s happening when it comes to getting a new deal from the Chicago Bears. He’s scheduled to make close to $10 million in 2020 and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2021. After turning in the second-best year of his career in 2019, catching 98 passes for 1,147 yards (11.7 yards after catch) and seven touchdowns, you’d think the Bears might be trying to pay him what he deserves to make him stick around Chicago.

That doesn’t seem to be the case.

Robinson isn’t thought of as a top tier wide receiver, but he has made a difference in both Jacksonville and Chicago. He’s also no stranger to playing on an expiring deal, but given what he’s been able to accomplish with the quarterbacks he’s played with, it’s pretty crazy to think the Bears would be playing hard ball — or not even thinking about giving him a new deal — before he gets wooed by another team.

The sales pitch of playing with Mitchell Trubisky is not a hard one to beat.

Not hearing about a new contract isn’t anything new, nor is the disrespect attached to it. Roninson was a 2019 Pro Bowl snub, despite proving to be the Bears’ best offensive weapon. Signing him to an extension shouldn’t be a tough decision to make, especially if the Bears are planning on moving on from Trubisky and finding another potential franchise quarterback.

Allen Robinson needs a new deal in place or the Bears receiving core could drop as far as their talent level is concerned. Their quarterback situation is already in flux, the wide receiver position doesn’t need to be added to the list.
