Dallas Cowboys adding patch to uniforms for 2020
The Dallas Cowboys are adding a new patch to their uniforms.
The Dallas Cowboys are going full-scale retro with their uniforms for the upcoming 2020 NFL season.
According to Cowboys insider and Sports Illustrated writer Mike Fisher, the Cowboys will be donning a new patch on their uniforms in 2020. The patch (pictured below) has the design of the original white Cowboys helmet with the plain blue star in the middle.
Underneath the old-school helmet rendering is a blue text block with “Est. 1960” written in white lettering, denoting the year the franchise was established. Based on the photo, the patch will appear on the front of each player’s uniform on the left shoulder, just above the player’s jersey number:
Anytime you can throw it back to a team’s original logos, it’s a good day for sports fans. It makes for good memorabilia and pays tribute to the franchise’s humble beginnings, before the Cowboys had become America’s team. There’s something charming and stoic in the simplicity of the design for this kind of retro patch.
Dallas enters the upcoming season with a new coach in Mike McCarthy and filled to the brim with talent at every skill position on offense. It’s unfortunate the Cowboys were unable to come to an agreement on a contract extension with quarterback Dak Prescott before deadline, and one could argue they made the mistake of paying the wrong player first (which Ezekiel Elliott strongly disagrees with), but in any case, this team has the talent to compete for a Super Bowl.
If the offense clicks with the change from Jason Garrett to McCarthy, perhaps a winning season and a deep playoff run will help mend things between Prescott and the front office. Either way though, Cowboys fans can look forward to at least one season of Dak and this loaded offense, all of whom will be wearing these slick throwback patches.
