Kansas City Chiefs reenact how a fan broke the Patrick Mahomes deal, but with a twist

Kate Camlin returned to confirm the Chris Jones deal.

Katie Camlin, a manager at Plaza Liquor Store in Kansas City, knew about Patrick Mahomes’ impending mega-deal before even Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport did, as she confirmed that a Chiefs employee brought several expensive bottles of liquor to celebrate the signing of a new contract. That deal happened to be a $503 million whopper that became the biggest contract in American sports history.

After Brett Veach and the Chiefs agreed on yet another monster contract extension with a star player, this time interior pass rusher Chris Jones, the Chiefs roped Camlin into appearing in a video that shows her confirming the Jones signing after a Chiefs employee bought a few bottles of liquor to celebrate the occasion.

Chris Jones deserved every dollar in his new contract.

Camlin herself is going to need to pop some champagne, as the Chiefs signed their best offensive and defensive player in the span of a month. Jones has recorded 24.5 sacks over the last two seasons, including nine last year despite missing three regular-season games. Given Kansas City’s OK at best secondary, getting pressure up the middle is an invaluable part of what Steve Spagnuolo wants to do on defense, and Jones is right in the heart of it all.

Lost in all of this was the fact that Kansas City’s social team just shot right to the top of the hypothetical power rankings, as the Camlin cameo was nothing short of a masterpiece.

Let the record show that a liquor store employee ended up hinting at the eventual signing of the biggest contract in sports history, beating the likes of Rapoport and Schefter to the punch. Camlin more than deserves her moment in the spotlight, and Veach deserves all the praise in the world for signing both Mahomes and Jones to huge contracts in the same month.
