Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy knew what OAN was all about.

Mike Gundy and the OAN t-shirt incident took another interesting turn on Thursday.

The Oklahoma State football coach was in hot water for wearing an OAN t-shirt while fishing at Lake Texoma a few weeks ago. OAN is a far-right political news network and one whose stances on pertinent issues don’t exactly coincide many of the players on his football team. Though he apologized and said he didn’t know what OAN was about, an uncovered email proves otherwise.

Matt Brown of Extra Points revealed an email exchange between Krista McClelland of Herring Networks Inc. and the Oklahoma State football coach about how to best send Gundy some OAN paraphernalia. It’s abundantly clear Gundy knew exactly what OAN’s far-right agenda was about. He was too smart to play dumb in his apology and has now been caught red-handed for it.

Will this email between Mike Gundy and OAN lead to something bigger?

Per the uncovered email by Brown, who obtained it via filing an FOIA, Gundy responded to McClelland’s initial email with, “I would love some gear from your network. I am a big fan of you guys! Tell your boss I said thank you and I will wear the gear proudly! P.S. I wear hats all the time.” While Gundy can wear and support whatever he chooses, he was caught in a lie with OAN.

Gundy has been the head coach at his alma mater since 2005, as he was promoted from within once Les Miles left Stillwater to coach the LSU Tigers. In 15 years, Gundy has gone 129-64 overall, 77-52 in Big 12, played in 14 straight bowl games and won a Big 12 Championship back in 2011. He may be the greatest coach in Oklahoma State history, but his days may be numbered after this.

His email address at the university is a play on his surname, as well as an inclination he’s a firm believer in the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. While Oklahoma State, Gundy and his players put the t-shirt incident behind them, this could lead to his resignation or termination. His buyout is a peculiar one, given on what could transpire from this new information we’ve learned.

Even though Gundy called himself a “dumbass” to ESPN while on camera for an offseason documentary surrounding the program, he had to know this email could eventually be leaked by someone. Though he may be furious Brown filed an FOIA to uncover the email exchange between OAN and the Oklahoma State football coach, we all know the truth now between Gundy and OAN.

This email is terrible look for Gundy because it is proof he was lying about OAN the whole time.
