Texas A&M football: 5 Aggies poised for breakout seasons in 2020
Kellen Mond is entering his final year as the Texas A&M Aggies’ starting quarterback and will have plenty of highly-talented targets to throw to in his farewell season. One of those targets is Sophomore tight end, Jalen Wydermyer. In his freshman season, hauled in 32 catches for 447 yards, and a team-high six touchdowns. Now, some can say that Wydermyer had his breakout season in 2019 but that was just a glimpse of what was to come for the Aggies.
Wydermyer wasn’t expected to see the field much his freshman year and was thought to be a backup plan for the Aggies. But due to injuries, Wydermyer got a chance early on in 2019 and made the most of it. And Wydermyer didn’t just make an impact in the Aggies pass game but also in the run game with his blocking ability. And this impact was seen in some of the Aggies’ biggest games last year as Wydermyer hauled in the only touchdown for A&M versus Clemson and had his first multi-touchdown game versus Alabama.
Wydermyer is 6-foot-5 and weighs 260 pounds but has quick feet, quick hands and improved his run and pass blocking week-by-week. And now with a full year of experience, Wydermyer is not only confident but comfortable in competing against SEC defense and is ready to pick up where he left off at and become one of the nation’s best tight ends following his Sophomore year.
