Tyrann Mathieu will pay for funeral of young boy killed in New Orleans.
New Orleans native Tyrann Mathieu has never been afraid to make a statement. He’s gone through a ton of hardship before becoming a Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs this February. He’s also known for always giving back to the community, whether that be his hometown or a city where he has applied his trade on the football field.
According to TMZ Sports, Mathieu will be paying for the funeral of Devante Bryant, a nine-year-old boy who was shot and killed in New Orleans on July 13th. Two other children were shot in the same accident, who both survived. The police have made no arrests at this time.
Mathieu told TMZ, “My goal is to help stop the violence and help my community to show and empower children from my community that there is another way, one child at a time.” Mathieu also mentioned that he has a young son growing up in New Orleans, so the story hits especially hard for him.
Mathieu has shown his commitment to service his entire career.
During the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak, Mathieu donated 30,000 meals to Kansas City families affected by the pandemic. Then, in May, the safety took part in a radiothon that raised even more funds for COVID relief. Mathieu has consistently shown his commitment to service throughout his career.
Mathieu has had quite the year after joining Kansas City last offseason. He was selected to the first team All Pro team after making 75 tackles and grabbing four interceptions. In addition to the Super Bowl, he watched his beloved LSU Tigers win the National Championship in January.
