Back when college football first began, most everyone’s uniforms looked the same. There were no bright colors or risky designs or even uniforms created out of recycled materials. And because everyone’s uniforms looked the same, if a player was too get muddy enough, he could have easily have disguised himself as a player for the other team.

And in today’s game, we still have simplicity. Teams like Alabama, Penn State, and Texas have stuck to the more traditional look without adding any flare and have pulled off a great look in doing so. Other teams like LSU, Oklahoma, and Ohio State have pretty modern uniforms while going with the occasional alternate that may or may not sit with fans. And then there are teams like Oregon, Boise State and TCU who have become game-changers in what having alternate uniform means, especially when most their home and away uniforms would normally be seen as alternates.

But throughout the history of college football, there have been some teams that have failed miserably at creating a look that matches their game, or perhaps their uniforms matched their play too well. You know, the teams that try to do too much? The teams that have odd school colors and make a combination that makes their alumni shake their head in disappointment? Yes, those teams.
