MLB’s new COVID-19 testing results delivers some good news
MLB has shared some positive news with the latest COVID-19 test results.
MLB’s season is officially set to begin next week with exhibition games starting this weekend. Teams will be playing other competition for the first time since March and one logical fear is that COVID-19 could spread rapidly once games begin.
The league has already had issues with getting tests back in a timely fashion, but the latest report on overall results is promising.
The MLB is not facing an outbreak
It goes without saying that any positive result is bad news. The problem is that it remains inevitable there will indeed be positive tests if everyone isn’t in a quarantined environment. Only having six positive samples in the last week is great news and does point to players and staff taking this seriously.
The report shares how 80 players have tested positive since teams began showing up for what is being called Summer Camp. In all, 28 teams have been hit by the virus and the fact there hasn’t been an outbreak on any team is another testament to the league and teams handling this in a serious and safe manner.
The real test begins when the games get going this weekend. Any delays in test results could end up creating a disaster if players or staff are unknowingly carrying the virus. This is all part of the risk of playing and as fans, all we can do is trust in the process.
George Springer is one player who has had to miss time due to delayed testing, while someone like Freddie Freeman has shown how tough the virus can be when contracted. Having a recent five-day stretch with no positive tests hopefully means players are being careful and the season can go on and be completed.
