Freddie Freeman describes his coronavirus symptoms

The Atlanta Braves first baseman tested positive on July 4.
Freddie Freeman is back with the Atlanta Braves after a tough battle with coronavirus.
Freeman, who was cleared to return to camp on Friday, wasn’t asymptomatic like many of his fellow MLB players. According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, on July 3, his temperature spiked at 104 degrees and stayed around 101 degrees for the next few days. He said it felt like he was fighting a sinus infection, but he’s been symptom-free for over a week.
Freeman’s wife has previously posted on Instagram about his symptoms, writing, He has body aches, headaches, chills and a high fever…He is someone who literally never gets sick and this virus hit him like a ton of bricks.”
Freeman’s symptoms were bad enough that his teammate Nick Markakis decided to opt-out of the shortened 2020 season. “The decision I’m making to sit out this year is the right one for me and my family,” Markakis said.
Will Freddie Freeman start on Opening Day?
The Atlanta Braves play their season opener against the New York Mets on July 24.
When asked about whether or not Freeman will be in the starting lineup, Atlanta GM Alex Anthopolous said, “Right now, we’ll see how he feels the next few days. We’ll have to take it day-to-day.”
“We’ve got a week till Opening Day,” Anthopolous continued. “He says he’s been hitting. You can never put it past him.”
Freeman, who has been with the Atlanta Braves since 2010, had a batting average of .295 in 2019, with 38 home runs and 121 RBIs. He also won the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award for the second year in a row.
