NFL power rankings: Which AFC quarterback is best?
10. Drew Lock, Denver Broncos
Lock was impressive in five starts for the Broncos a season ago.
Not only did the team post a 4-1 record during those games, but he also completed 64 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and three interceptions. It was enough to convince general manager John Elway that the former Missouri Tiger is a legitimate franchise quarterback.
Elway used the offseason to provide Lock with all the tools he needs to succeed: an upgrade at running back with the addition of Melvin Gordon, and pass-catchers in rookies Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler.
This should be a much improved Broncos offense, and that starts with Lock.
9. Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans
After reaching the AFC Championship Game, the Titans doubled-down on Tannehill with a major contract extension to the tune of four years and $118 million. Were the Titans correct in doing so? You’re guess is as good as ours. What we do know is that Tannehill was named the AFC Comeback Player of the Year in 2019 after starting 10 games, throwing for 2,700 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Very much in the Alex Smith mold, Tannehill will have a very difficult time leading the way to a title. But for the run-first, defensive style of the Titans? He can certainly avoid being a reason you don’t win.
