The world is waiting for a full heavyweight unification bout between champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. An encounter in the street helped tease fans.

Heavyweight boxing champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua hold all the belts, and both live in England. It was only a matter of time before they would run into each other in an urban setting, and that time has come.

On Saturday, July 18, a photograph emerged on Twitter, showing Joshua staring down Fury, who was in his SUV. Not much is known at this time where the photo was taken or how the two ended up at the same place at the same time, but they are briefly together at last, which enough to entice boxing fans.

Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) won the WBC title from Deontay Wilder in February after stopping Deontay Wilder in round 7 of their highly anticipated rematch. It was a blowout, and people immediately contemplated what it would take for a full unification bout between Fury and Joshua.

Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua is the boxing bout everyone wants to see, but there are numerous obstacles standing in the way.

Joshua (23-1, 21 KOs) holds the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO titles, which he regained from Andy Ruiz Jr. after being shockingly knocked out in their first meeting in June of 2019. He easily outboxed Ruiz in the rematch.

Fury vs. Joshua would be the most lucrative fight in boxing, and would probably set records in pay-per-view buys. The problem is that both men are contractually obligated to fight other boxers at the moment. Fury is locked in to meet Wilder in a trilogy contest, and Joshua is expected to battle Kubrat Pulev.

Even if they win their contracted fights, Dillian Whyte is the mandatory contender for Fury’s WBC belt. Whyte has been waiting for a title shot, but he could be bypassed if Fury is elevated to WBC “franchise” champion.

More than likely, the latest Fury/Joshua photograph was stagged for publicity, but it served its purpose. Boxing fans get to see the two best heavyweights in the world together. Now, they can continue dreaming of that desired unification belt.
