The relationship between Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love is something to watch in training camp.

After the Green Bay Packers shocked the world and selected Jordan Love with the 26th pick in the NFL Draft, all eyes were on Aaron Rodgers and his reaction to the pick. To this point, he has only said he’s excited to help the rookie quarterback adjust to the NFL.

However, we all know that Rodgers isn’t thrilled about the pick. Once again, the Packers refused to draft him a receiver in the first round. The Packers have never drafted a wide receiver or tight end in the first round for Rodgers’ entire tenure in Green Bay. The need for another pass catcher is obvious heading into the new season, with Allen Lazard currently holding the No. 2 receiver slot and Jace Sternberger, who hasn’t caught a single NFL pass, starting at tight end.

At 36, Rodgers has shown no signs of slowing down. Last season was another excellent one for the quarterback, finishing with 4,002 yards, 26 touchdowns and only four interceptions. He led the Packers to the NFC Championship Game with only one reliable receiver for the duration of the season. The Packers were only one win away from making the Super Bowl last season, but that clearly wasn’t enough for the front office to try to load up for 2020.

Aaron Rodgers will be extremely motivated in 2020.

Instead, the Packers chose Love, which is clearly a pick for the future. It will be interesting to see how Rodgers reacts with Love in the locker room. He is a symbol of the lack of support the front office has given Rodgers in recent years.

Rodgers still has four years left on his contract, so only time will tell what the Packers’ true plan is. Love may need to wait a while to get a starting job. There’s no doubt that Rodgers will have extra motivation in order to prove the front office wrong and that he will be able to perform into his 40s.

It will be intriguing to see what Love brings to the table in training camp. While no one expects him to beat out Rodgers for the starting job, it will be the first time in a while that Rodgers will have any sort of competition for his position.

The relationship between Rodgers and Love is definitely something to keep an eye on. It goes much deeper than a rookie and a veteran competing for the same position.
