AFC South power rankings: Colts bolster an already-talented roster
There’s been plenty written about the Houston Texans and what Bill O’Brien has it done when it comes to the franchise. Off course, it’s also worth noting that in six seasons as the team’s head coach and now with the title general manager as well, the franchise has posted five winning seasons and won the AFC South four of the past five years.
Yes, the franchise has yet to advance to the AFC Championship Game in 18 seasons on the field dating back to their debut campaign in 2002. But that’s not all on the current sideline later. This was a club that didn’t even reach the postseason until its 10th year in 2011 when Gary Kubiak was the head coach.
O’Brien has really been under fire this offseason after seemingly giving away three-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals. The club did add former Pro Bowl running back David Johnson as part of that deal and via other moves, now boasts a wide receiving corps off Randall Cobb and Brandin Cooks, as well as incumbents Will Fuller and Kenny Stills.
But what could really hold the Texans back this upcoming year is a defense that has really fallen off the past two seasons. Hence the decision to promote defensive line coach Anthony Weaver to supplant veteran coach Romeo Crennel as coordinator.
