Kristian Fulton lined up to make instant impact in Titans secondary

Kristian Fulton fell to the second round of April’s draft, but he’s in line to make an instant impact in the Titans’ secondary.

Cornerback Kristian Fulton was part of the pipeline from the national champion LSU Tigers to the 2020 NFL Draft, and he was widely regarded as a potential first-round pick. But he fell fairy deep into the second round, into the laps of the Tennessee Titans at No. 61 overall.

The Titans secondary is led by safety Kevin Byard and cornerback Adoree Jackson. They were top half of the league in interceptions with 14 last year, as Byard had five. But in terms of raw passing yards, Tennessee was 24th in the league last season (255 yards per game). Cornerback Johnathan Joseph signed in free agency from the division rival Houston Texans, but at 36 years old his best days are behind him.

So there is room for Fulton to play, play a lot and make an instant impact as a rookie. As part of his piece on rookies drafted after Day 1 of the draft who could play significant roles right away, Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports believes in Fulton.

"How did Fulton last under the middle of the second round?’”  “That’s what we’re all going to be asking ourselves in a few years.Blessed with amazing twitch in his lower half, loose hips, and 4.46 speed, Fulton has the physical makeup of a No. 1 cornerback in the NFL,” Trapasso wrote. . Tennessee might have the most underrated secondary in football with safety Kevin Byard and Adoree Jackson, and the Fulton will fit right in with that duo as a sticky, ball-hawking corner."

Via Music City Miracles, LSU defensive backs coach Corey Raymond said the Titans were a perfect landing spot for Fulton.

"I’m very familiar with what they do on defense and I think it fits who he is as a cornerback. We watch a lot of NFL tape. I’ve seen what the Titans do within their scheme and I think it fits him incredibly well. The Titans were the perfect landing spot for him."

Not being a first round pick is one thing, but Fulton inexplicably fell to the back end of the second round. Being a rookie is challenging this year, but Fulton is still in line to make an immediate impact in the Titans’ secondary.
