Dr. Anthony Fauci bounces first pitch in MLB season opener
Dr. Anthony Fauci had a rough ceremonial first pitch.
The 2020 MLB season is officially underway Thursday night as the Washington Nationals are hosting the New York Yankees. The league’s long-awaited return to play during the COVID-19 pandemic is a special event and one that will go down in history.
The game being in Washington D.C. meant the team was able to call upon Dr. Anthony Fauci to throw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch. Dr. Fauci has been a trusted voice during the pandemic and is a historical figure himself in the world of medicine.
The man is busy, so it was easy to forgive him for what ended up being a rough first pitch.
Dr. Fauci’s pitch goes just wide
Dr. Fauci was clad in his own Nationals jersey and mask, which he has worn before. The man is a big fan of the team and this had to be exciting for him because of that alone. To have fun and joke for a second, he may want to work on his delivery where he stops his arm about halfway through the pitch.
He is not the first individual to throw out an ugly first pitch and will not be the last. Yet Dr. Fauci gets a pass based on the work he is doing for our country.
Baseball is back, and while it’s weird without fans in the stands, this will have to do while the pandemic continues to rage on. Having a doctor who specializes in infectious diseases throw out the first pitch of an entire season lets everyone know where the country is right now.
Hopefully, Dr. Fauci can be brought back for a redemption pitch when fans are back in the stands once again.
