The A’s took home a W against the Astros on Friday night even though the two teams weren’t playing

The Oakland Athletics took home an extra innings win in stunning fashion thanks to a Matt Olsen walk-off grand slam, but that’s not what got the attention of Houston Astros fans. In the aftermath of the Astros sign-stealing scandal, it’s an unfortunate reality that supporters of rival MLB teams will have to wait to jeer Houston in person. In the meantime, however, they’ve found some creative ways to make their voices heard.

The Astros’ mascot, Orbit, made an appearance in the stands at the Oakland Coliseum as a cardboard cutout on Friday night. Unless this was meant to be an Oscar the Grouch impersonation, it’s a direct shot at Houston’s trash can-banging ways.

The Astros were trolled relentlessly on Opening Day

For those unfamiliar, the Astros relayed stolen signs by banging on a trash can during their 2017 World Series-winning season. It was an incredibly simple scheme, but one that worked to perfection.

The 2020 shortened MLB season doesn’t lend itself well to teams such as the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers, which would like to get some semblance of revenge on Houston now that the finding of MLB’s sign-stealing investigation have been revealed. Instead, they’ll have to rely on the petty actions of their fans, rather than a beanball heading directly towards Jose Altuve’s dome.
