The Houston Astros have clarified Aledmys Díaz‘s injury from Friday.

Designated hitter Aledmys Díaz has been placed on the Houston Astros injured list.

Díaz exited the Astros vs Seattle Mariners season opener on Friday. Díaz had exited the game during the sixth inning for what was originally speculated as a leg strain, the Astros confirm the injury is a right groin issue.

Díaz is said to have first noticed discomfort after circling the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning as he cashed in on a run during the Astros five-run rally in the fifth inning. The Astros did go on to win their opener 8-2 at Minute Maid Park.

The Astros will be without Aledmys Diaz for the time being

In the opener, Díaz was 1-for-2 at the plate and scored a run. As the 29-year-old seemed to be finding his swing early, this injury coming in a shortened 60-game season could to be a blow to the Astros.

Going forward with Díaz on the injured list, the Astros have Taylor Jones set to take his place.

In 2019, Díaz also missed time after being hospitalized overnight due to dizziness and feeling light-headed when traveling on the team bus. Results later revealed he was clear from any diagnosis but the team placed him on the 10-day injured list as a safety precaution.

This is Díaz‘s second season with the Astros. Beforehand, he played with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018 and two seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals, 2016-17. That 2016 season, Díaz was an All-Star selection.
