Georgia is in the Top 5 for 5-star linebacker Smael Mondon and landing him would be huge for Kirby Smart
Earlier this week, Georgia fans were rocked with the stunning news that 5-star athlete James Williams won’t be playing his college ball in Athens. The elite player seemed like a lock to pick the Bulldogs, but committed to Miami seemingly out of nowhere.
The major consensus was that Williams would end up picking Georgia, especially after he took a recent trip to campus. Instead, he’s decided to stay close to home and will suit up for the Hurricanes.
While losing Williams no doubt stings for head coach Kirby Smart and his assistant coaches, that doesn’t mean the 2021 class is going to be a flop. Indeed, Georgia can quickly get over the Williams news if they’re able to add a new 5-star player to its class. So, Bulldogs fans, how about linebacker Smael Mondon?

Smael Mondon is ranked the No. 1 outside linebacker in the country and is high on Georgia
Mondon would be a monster get for the Bulldogs. The 6-3, 220-pounder has picked up well over 30 offers this cycle, but is down to Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, LSU and Auburn. It’s an all-SEC battle for the touted recruit, who is already being projected as a potential first-round NFL Draft pick.
On 247Sports, there are eight ‘Crystal Ball’ picks for Mondon, all of which are in Georgia’s favor. While that may be a great sign for Bulldogs fans, the case was similar for Williams, who stunned us all and went with Miami.
Still, Georgia has been putting in serious work on Mondon and the program wants to make sure the Dallas, Ga. product doesn’t leave the state. Will Smart be successful in keeping him home? No decision appears to be imminent for the standout ‘backer, but the Bulldogs appear to be a in great spot to potentially land his services.
