Matt Davidson positive for COVID-19 one day after he played on Opening Day.

Reds Infielder Matt Davidson has tested positive for COVID-19 just one day after playing in the team’s Opening Day game against the Tigers on Friday. Davidson appeared as a designated hitter during the teams victory at Great American Ballpark.

This is the first known MLB player to test positive for the coronavirus since Opening Day thought several teams have had players unable to play after testing positive for the potentially deadly virus during Summer Camp in the last few weeks.

The Reds have places Davidson on the 10 day injured list. There’s no indication who he may have infected or how many players on either team will test positive following this revelation. The team did not reveal the date that Davidson was tested.

What does Matt Davidson have to do to return to the field?

According to the pre-determined COVID-19 protocol, he will have to test negative twice, at least 24 hours apart and have no fever for 72 hours before he is allowed to rejoin the team.
