Trevor Bauer has a sense of humor about his 2019 temper tantrum

In July of 2019, Trevor Bauer embarrassed Terry Francona so badly it got him traded across the state. The then-Cleveland pitcher was upset as he was pulled in the Indians 9-6 loss to the Kansas City Royals, and bombed the baseball from the pitcher’s mound into the outfield stands. Bauer, now with the Reds, has called the moment the worst of his big league career. He was fined an undisclosed amount by the Tribe for his actions, and traded shortly thereafter.

“First and foremost, I owe a sincere apology to all of my teammates, my coaching staff, the organization and all of our fans for how I conducted myself today. It’s unbecoming. It was childish, unprofessional. There’s no place for it in the game. I’m happy it didn’t result in any physical injury for anybody else. I realize I put people in danger,” Bauer said at the time.

Thankfully, as time has passed, Bauer has a sense of humor about the entire event. On Sunday, almost a year later, he pump faked as if he were going to attempt the same fate.

Bauer pitched excellently in the Reds 3-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, notching 13 strikeouts. Much is expected of Cincinnati this season in part due to the improvement of their starting rotation. In a shortened 60-game season, the NL Central is as wide open as ever, and the Reds aim to take advantage of that in spite of an opening series defeat.
