Alex Bregman reached a new milestone Monday night.

Alex Bregman has emerged as a legitimate MLB superstar with the Houston Astros. The third baseman posted a 9.1 WAR last season after a mark of 7.3 in 2018. He finished top-five in American League MVP voting both years.

Bregman was also a key figure in the Astros sign-stealing scandal, but he did not face any punishment and is back looking to compete for his first MVP Award. Astros fans also knew about a milestone he was close to hitting. That was home run No. 100 and Bregman reached the mark Monday with an absolute blast against the Seattle Mariners.

Alex Bregman’s hot start

The young star made his debut in 2016 and is already on pace for some historic numbers. A shortened 2020 season will slow down his pace, but that is true for everyone in the league this year.

He hit 19 home runs in 2017 in what was his first full season. Then came 31 in 2018 and 41 in 2019. Add on his eight in 49 games from the 2016 season and his shot Monday got him to 100.

Bregman was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft right behind Dansby Swanson and his increase in power each year has been a pleasant surprise for the Astros. Even hitting 19 in 2017 was a nice total from his position.

He is due for an MVP Award soon if he keeps his WAR total where it is and he will also be on pace for Hall of Fame enshrinement with WAR totals around 7.0-9.0 each season. That is a tough pace to maintain, but this latest milestone shows he is not a one or even two-year wonder.
